The Role Head of Sustainability

As Head of Sustainability, you will lead the development and implementation of the organisation's sustainability strategy, working closely with senior leadership and teams across the business.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and own the organisation's sustainability and ESG strategy.
  • Establish ambitious but achievable environmental and sustainability targets.
  • Lead carbon reduction and Net Zero programmes across the organisation.
  • Develop and monitor Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, waste reduction and resource utilisation.
  • Work with procurement and supply chain teams to embed responsible and sustainable sourcing.
  • Develop sustainability policies, frameworks and reporting processes.
  • Monitor emerging legislation, regulations and sustainability standards.
  • Produce clear sustainability reporting for senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, procurement, finance, HR, marketing and product teams.
  • Identify opportunities where sustainability can deliver commercial as well as environmental value.
  • Lead sustainability projects and workstreams from strategy through to implementation.
  • Build internal awareness and champion sustainable behaviours across the organisation.
  • Represent the organisation with customers, partners and external sustainability stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a commercially minded sustainability professional who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery.

You will ideally have:

  • Significant experience in a sustainability, ESG, environmental or responsible business position.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing sustainability strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of Net Zero, carbon reduction and Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • Experience with ESG reporting, sustainability metrics and data.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and emerging sustainability requirements.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and working across multiple business functions.
  • Strong project management and change management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • A pragmatic, analytical and commercially focused approach.
  • The confidence to challenge existing ways of working and champion meaningful change.

Qualifications

A degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Management, ESG or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Relevant professional qualifications or significant practical sustainability experience will also be considered.
